Hard Gel 101 - NAILPRO Magazine (July 2014)

Hard gel has come a long way since its stateside introduction in the ’80s. At that time, gel nails were difficult to apply, often too soft or brittle and had a higher allergy rate than their acrylic counterparts. For the most part, techs in the U.S. abandoned the original gel systems and dug their brushes deeper into their trusted liquid-and-powders. Meanwhile, European techs, who had little-to-no exposure
to acrylic nail products, embraced gel technology as their go-to nail enhancement. Today, the script has flipped. As acrylic services rise in Europe, the next generation of hard gels experiences a renaissance in the States.

Learn the basics of this service, plus nine expert tips from Lisa Dunlop, technical director for Cuccio Europe, Allie Baker, global educator for EzFlow, Amy Becker, founder of MasterWorks by Amy, Roxanne Vallnoti, education training manager for CND, Dafne Fernandez, global educator for Artistic Nail Design, Tammi Merritt, CND educator, Elsie Visser, president of Bio Sculpture USA.
