Hi guys! It's official. I'll be at the Rite Aid in Beverly Hills with JulieG on June 21st from 10am - 2pm doing nail art. Gah! So exciting. If you're in the Los Angeles area - please come and see me!! More details to come.
It’s the fifth Lacquer Legion (hard to believe, isn't it?) and the prompt is GARDEN! I decided to do vegetables instead of flowers. I thought it would be different and fun and something I'd never do otherwise! I'm pretty stoked about how they turned out. If only I had this much patience more often! :)
My base is Zoya Tilda, a warm green creme from the new Tickled Collection. Not much shows through, but Tilda made a great canvas. All of the veggies are free-handed with acrylic paint and a few teeny, tiny art brushes.
I looked for clip art so I could get some ideas on how to stylize the veggies...but the actual composition is totally random. I started with blobs of color, then added some darker shading and finally outlined it all with a dark brown. The key to the outlines is to thin out the paint with water...a lot!
I wasn't happy with my effort in-progress (in fact, I almost gave up!)...but the more I futzed with it, the more it grew on me and I'm really happy with the final product. I like the painterly look sans topcoat. I actually didn't topcoat it until the next day (which was too late as some of the edges started to unravel in my sleep...eeeck!). It's too bad because it looked nice with a matte finish.
Facebook where we’ll feature some of our faves at the end of the day.
