NEW Pure Ice for 2014...Swatches and Review

Hi all! It's Sunday evening...I rarely post on Sundays. My work has been insanely busy and I'm trying to catch up on the blog this weekend. Don't forget...TOMORROW is Lacquer Legion! Post your "reinvention" look and tag it #LLreinvention all over the web! Visit this post and follow the Lacquer Legion Facebook page to learn more.

Today I have six new Pure Ice polishes for 2014. Sometimes Pure Ice re-releases shades with new names. I haven't had a chance to research it, so I'm curious if any of these are repromotes. (If you know, please let me know and I'll add the info to the post.) [UPDATE: Pure Ice PR just contacted me and confirmed that all six shades are brand spanking new for 2014!] I've come to love Pure Ice as an affordable option in nail lacquer. They have a ton of colors and finishes and at only $1.97 a bottle, they're a great value. BTW, I took these swatch photos in indirect natural sunlight (instead of my normal setup). I seem to have better luck getting accurate color when I'm swatching paler shades. All swatches are finished with Pure Ice Girl on the Run topcoat.

Scandal is a dark chocolate brown. It seems like the word "chocolate" is thrown around a lot to describe brown...but this one seriously deserves it. It's all I could think about while polishing. LOL. I used two coats.

Pure Ice Scandal

Shore Bet is a warm gray beige. Given the color, I expected it to be chalky, but it wasn't. It's a great neutral and the formula was nice. This is two easy coats.

Pure Ice Shore Bet

Teal Appeal is a deep teal blue. No staining issues. Two coats.

Pure Ice Teal Appeal

Happy Hour is a happy peach. My camera has real issues with any color that is remotely orange. In real life, it's much more punchy. Almost a light coral. Coverage was nice in two coats.

Pure Ice Happy Hour

Satin Ribbon is a soft pink that's fairly sheer. I'm recovering from some staining (eeeeck). I loved the sheerness of this in two coats, but it wasn't enough to overcome the stain, so I went with a third coat. I have a soft spot in my heart for sheer pinks (that's all I wore for years and years). This shade isn't unique, of course, but it's a great version.

And last, but not least, this is Lavendare, a super soft and pretty light purple creme. My swatch is three coats.

Pure Ice Lavendare

Scandal is definitely my fave, followed by Lavendare. What are yours?

  3. I must have Lavendare!! I always laugh when I read how you wore sheer pink polish for years. I wore Essie Ballet Slippers forever!! It was perfect for my law firm life. I even wore it when I got married, so I too have a soft spot for those lovely sheer pinks!!

  8. Interesting. I have an older bottle of Pure Ice Scandal that is more of an oxblood red rather than a chocolate brown. I've had other Pure Ice polishes that are different colors but have the same name — I wonder if they recycle names every few years? I like yours better!

  16. I love Pure Ice, but I wish they sold them at more places than just walmart. my walmart always looks like a war zone, and they almost never get the special collections. (They had some exclusive Sinful Colors a while back, never showed up) I've pretty much given up on going there for polish :(

  18. Liz, I think it's a great brand for the money. For less than 2 bucks...you can experiment and I've actually been quite happy with the Pure Ice formula and selection. :)

I really like the Pure Ice brand o nail enamel. I have always purchased it at Walmart. My two favorite colors are: Pure Ice Peony as the bottom coat and then Pure Ice Lilac Mist as the second coat and you would not believe the comments I get on that combination. Actually for the last two-three months I have not been able to find Lilac Mist at any of the Walmarts in my area. Any suggestions?

  20. Donna, that combo sounds awesome! I believe Lilac Mist was discontinued at the end of 2012 to make room for their big Runway Collection launch. So when store stock was sold out...that was the end of that. However, they frequently repromote old colors with new names. Let me look through my stash and see if I come up with something similar.

Thanks for the information. Any new product or resurrection of Lilic Mist would really be appreciated. Even if it would be with another brand. However, Pure Ice is preferred. Thanks again for getting back to me so soon.

  22. Ure satin ribbon swatch is the only one I could find! Even though it's not a rare find color in general I do think it's more rare shade in cheaper polishes....with essie it's a dime a dozen but I don't like paying that much for polish...a good bottom and top coat and go cheap w the colors in between. So I'm always happy when I find neutral sheers and jellies in cheap polishes!
