Pure Ice Stars & Stripes 4th of July Nail Art

 press sample
Happy Monday! I missed you and the blog on Friday. I had to attend a pretty somber event and I needed to re-charge this weekend. Now I’m refocused and ready to go! So I planned ahead this year and did an Independence Day mani BEFORE the holiday. Novel idea for a nail blog, right? For this look, I used four of the five polishes in the Pure Ice Stars & Stripes Collection. I love nail designs where there are a few different things going on. Plus, I’m able to independently manage one nail at a time without stressing about being consistent across all five fingers (#ocdnailbloggerproblemz). I’ve yet to successfully execute a water marble. That technique would have been perfect for my middle finger. But alas, I sucked…again…so I painted the nail with a striping brush.

The polishes in the Stars and Stripes Collection are already in stores. It turns out I had a few of them already! I think they just repackaged/renamed them into a set. On my thumb, pinky and ring fingers, I started with two coats of Siren. It’s a pretty red creme, but not quite as bright as I was expecting for an American flag red. On the thumb and pinky, I did a slight gradient with Dazzle Me. On the ring finger, I added a solid coat of Freedom. I had to fish for stars, which was fine by me because I wanted to place them in the right spot. I sort of “cleaned them off” so there wasn’t any extra glitter obstructing the silver. (I know, I have issues!)

My middle finger was the water marble gone bad. I started over with two coats of Superstar!, a white creme. Then using a striping brush, I painted on the wavy red lines in Siren. I used an even smaller brush to go back in with Superstar! and clean up any lines I didn’t like. There’s actually a blue glitter in this collection called Wide Awake, but I don’t have it. Instead I used Pure Ice Celestial, a pretty, slightly metallic, blue. There are two coats on my pointer finger and just a dab on my middle finger. Lastly, I used a small nail art brush to hand paint some stars over the blue. To make everything nice and even, I finished with two coats of Seche Vite.

Pure Ice is available in stores and at walmart.com for $1.97 each.

So what will you be wearing this Independence Day? I wonder, do any of my international readers do American themed nail art on the 4th of July? I’ve rocked a Canadian flag on a Canadian holiday a time or two. :)
