Running Behind: RAKANI Watch Review and Inspired Mani

 press sample
It's BLACK Friday! Gah! Who braves the crowds? Not me. Absolutely not. The chaos makes my head spin. My OCD would compel me to clean up store shelves and make customers line up in straight lines at the register! So I stay safe at home and buy almost everything online!

So today I have something a little different for the blog. I was presented with the opportunity to try a new line of watches called RAKANI. This new brand has an interesting concept that intrigued me enough to give one a try. I chose a watch called "Running Behind" (and paired it with a mani, of course!)

Look closely and you can see why this timepiece is called "Running Behind"...it runs counter-clockwise! Each RAKANI watch is designed around a meaningful aspect of time-keeping. As many of you know, I work in a very conservative office. So I love that this watch has classic styling - but the movement is rebellious! Here are the other watches in the Fashionably Late Collection. You can see how each one creatively interprets a theme. [RAKANI image below]

I originally created some complex nail art inspired by the watch...but the watch is so pretty - it just took away from it. Instead I took inspiration from the the clean, shiny lines. It's almost icy in a way. So I polished my nails in a strong, slightly shimmery blue, Zoya Song, and polished an accent nail in a sparkly black, Zoya Storm.

The watch arrived in a spectacular travel package which has a cushion for the watch, as well as a small tray for earrings and a small tray for rings. I totally wasn't expecting this and thought maybe this was just an add-on for my sample. But in fact, all RAKANI watches come packaged like this. [RAKANI image]

My watch was well-wrapped in plastic (the same plastic used to cover shiny surfaces on electronics) and had zero scratches or defects. All RAKANI watches have a mineral crystal face, Miyota (Japanese) quartz movement and are water resistant to 50 meters. The cases are constructed of 3-pieces and bands are made from stainless steel or double padded leather. All-in-all, I would classify the line as fashion watches...certainly on par in quality and styling to a Michael Kors or Anne Klein selection available at department stores for a comparable price. However, the addition of the travel case and the ingenuity of the design are definite discriminators. A RAKANI watch would be a great gift...especially for any fashionable "time-challenged" female in your life.

Be sure to take advantage of RAKANI's current Black Friday and Cyber Monday promotions!
