Happy Wednesday! Remember me saying on Monday that some posts this week will be pulling double duty? Well this is one of them! Today I have my Day 3 Digit-al Dozen Fashion Mani and a review of the Orly Water-Based Instant Artist stripers (which I used for the mani).Digit-al Dozen Milly Resort 2014 Inspired Mani
This mani was so fun and simple. Now I see inspiration in fashion all the time. It's so easy just to pull different components from a look and tada...you have a masterpiece! The individual nails in the design are inspired by the shoes, shorts, bag, buttons and waistline of this Milly Resort 2014 look. Super easy.
I used a clean white polish as the base and topcoated with G&G HK Girl Topcoat. After that dried, I got to work with the water-based stripers in Jet Black and True Blue. I freehanded all the shapes using only the Orly striping brush. The only time I used tape was on my thumb when I taped off the patterned tip. I sealed in the design with more HK Girl topcoat. I love the result!
Orly Instant Artist Water-Based Stripers
Apparently, I'm the last person on the planet to know about these things. If you start on a clean dry nail, you can literally "erase" mistakes. I was unhappy with my first attempt at the print. So I just ran my finger under running water and scraped the polish off with another nail. I thought the color would be watery, but in fact, it was non-streaky and highly pigmented. The striping brushes were a nice length, but I did trim the super fine tip a bit because that's my personal preference. After you finish your design, seal it with topcoat. Admittedly, I held my breath as I did this and used a very light hand. But I really had no streaking...which is saying a lot with a black and white design!
Orly Instant Artist Stripers come in both water-based and lacquer-based formulations and retail for $6.50 for a 0.3oz bottle. You can purchase them online at the Orly website. Orly products can also be found at Sally Beauty Supply, Ulta, CVS and other retail locations.
