CPNA 2013: What's to come...

Hi all! I’m back from Cosmoprof North America 2013 (CPNA). What an amazing experience! CPNA is the largest business-to-business beauty trade show in North America. Hands down, it provides the greatest networking opportunities for executive buyers, manufacturers, packaging/labeling firms, merchandisers, distributors, and importers/exporters working in cosmetics, personal care, spa & wellness and professional hair, nails and tools. Put simply, this is where the big deals are born.

I have so much information to share about upcoming nail polish collections, new products and systems, and future nail trends from brands we know and love, as well as brands that are new to me (and maybe to you too). Over the coming weeks, I’ll be sharing industry news and swatches from the event, along with my regular posts. At any time, click the Cosmoprof 2013 button at the top of the blog to see all posts with news coming directly from this event. For now, here's a peek of what's to come...

I was fortunate to get a one-on-one meeting with Zoya Reyzis, founder of Zoya. She was as witty and amazing as I imagined. She shared stories behind the humble beginnings of Zoya ZOOM and the creative inspiration behind Zoya polish names. (They're still named that way today!) I also got a sneak peek of the holiday collection...but I have to keep that part under wraps. (You will LOVE it!) Expect an entire post dedicated to Zoya. BONUS: I also got to meet my fave Zoya employee, who secretly doubles as Zoya's hand model!!

I was so lucky to be invited to an Orly reception announcing the launch of the Orly It all started with Pink campaign. The reception featured a touching video tribute by the daughter of Orly founder, Mr. Jeff Pink. During the event, standing just a few feet from Mr. Pink,  I felt like I was in the middle of the nail polish universe! I also got to meet with an Orly representative who walked me through the Fall and Holiday Collections. Expect a post on all the goodies!

Who doesn't love Katie Cazorla?! She's so enthusiastic about her new Color Flash One Step Nail she should be. I was graciously invited to a small dinner where Katie demo'd the system and generously gave each of us in attendance a Color Flash LED Pod and four instant gel nail colors to try. Look for a swatch post soon! Katie tried to teach me the art of the Instagram pose (look to one into the distance, then bam!...turn your eyes to the camera at the last moment). I was woefully unsuccessful at this technique. I like my technique better...running from cameras!

I can't believe how far I've come in the last year of blogging. Meeting Jesse Lawrence from Jesse's Girl Cosmetics was a real honor and treat! Jesse picked up Krystal from Polish Galore, Judy from Beauty Judy and me in a limo and took us to a great dinner at Battista's. We got the chance to chuckle in person at my formal (and slightly petrified) first phone call with Jesse when he asked me to take a photograph for the Frosted Gumdrops display. Jesse's Girl has some awesome stuff in the works...but I can't talk about it yet! And Krystal and Judy, wow...they are new and dear friends. Both are talented and well-connected in the industry and I owe a good part of my CPNA experience to the two of them!

My encounter with Tia Valenciano, the founder of Nail Art Society (NAS) was complete kismet. I was with a group of bloggers as we walked from the convention floor on the second day. She recognized someone in the group (I missed the first part of the conversation) and we circled around chatting. As soon as I realized who she was I yelled out like a fan girl, "Are you Tia!?!? I'm work/play/polish!"  Awhile back, Tia asked me to be a NAS Guru. We had communicated via email, but neither of us realized we would be at the event. Look for big things from NAS. I got to see an early preview of the new and improved NAS website. I think you'll be excited by the changes!

And the last thing I'll share for today is one of the coolest. I ran into Alanna Wall, founder of Polished Girlz. The Polished Girlz organization hosts nail art parties for girls with special needs or frequent hospitalizations, while also teaching them the importance of hand washing to reduce infection rates and repeated hospital admissions. It's a great cause and it's growing! Alanna is from my hometown of Dayton, Ohio and I couldn't be more proud. I practically shoved my business card into her mother's purse! I would love to get involved.

In addition to the awesomeness above, I also met one-on-one with China Glaze, Color Club, Dashing Diva, Essie, Gelish, Layla Cosmetics, Morgan Taylor, NCLA, NYX, Precision Lacquer, Red Carpet Manicure, Ruby Wing, Salon Perfect, and Seche. I also got to meet indie greats like Dandy Nails, Girly Bits, GlitterDaze, KBShimmer, llarowe, Ninja Polish, and Serum No. 5. And I can't forget hanging on every word during a meeting with Stephanie Lavery, Editor-in-Chief, and Katie Frost, Beauty Editor, of Nail It! magazine!

It’s great to be back! (but secretly I'm already planning my trip to Cosmoprof North America 2014!)
