CPNA 2013: NCLA Fall Collection, Clueless Nail Wraps and My First NCLA Swatch

 press sample
One Cosmoprof North America booth I definitely didn’t want to miss was NCLA (Nail Couture Los Angeles).  Imagine my surprise when the Elin Dannerstedt, the founder of NCLA, welcomed me personally as I buzzed in on my way to another appointment (of course I played it cool and pretended like I didn't know who she was!)  She’s young, beautiful, passionate, quintessential Southern California and seemingly humble about what she’s accomplished…which is a lot! In the short time since NCLA was conceived, the brand has collaborated with Glamour, Melody Ehsani (jewelry designer) and celebrity nail stylists Jenna Hipp, Madeline Poole and Steph Stone. NCLA nail wraps and lacquers have been seen on the likes of Beyonce, Zoe Saldana, Kate Bosworth and Rachel McAdams and on the pages of Vogue, Marie Claire and Elle magazines. Impressive, right? Today I have some upcoming collection news, as well as the first NCLA swatch on WPP! Let's start there...

NCLA I'm with the Band

This is I'm with the Band, a deep shimmery coral. I'm kind of drooling over it. The formula was easy to control, coverage was perfect in two coats and the color was bright and intense. So pretty! If all NCLA polishes are like this, I can't wait to try

NCLA Fall 2013 North of Sunset Collection
Elin explained her inspiration for this collection, the lavish parallel universe that appears north of Sunset Blvd. in Los Angeles. (All the while, she was carrying on a separate conversation in fluent French with the other person in the booth! But fortunately I know enough French to follow along!)

NCLA Fall 2013 North of Sunset Collection

If you've read WPP for awhile, then you know I love berry polish. I immediately honed in on Laurel Canyon Lolita, a dark berry cream. The other colors include Dead-End Gorgeous, an iridescent metallic purple (um...I'm dying over this one), My Dad Invented That, a dark galaxy glitter, and The Spa That Comes to Me!, a light Army green cream. I asked Elin if it was their plan to stick to 4-polish collections and she protectively responded that they were still a new company and moving slowly. What she didn't realize is that I LOVE the concept of a 4-polish collection. It's palatable by the masses (especially polish collectors), yet plenty to communicate your point-of-view. I love me some OPI, but those 12 polish collections are so much at once! Even breaking it up into two 6-piece collections would pacify me...but I digress.

Of course, nail wraps are NCLA's roots. Their upcoming release includes four Clueless-inspired sets. I'm not a Clueless buff, but I thought the wraps were cute and thoughtful. Unfortunately, the only pic I got was with my phone! There's so much to manage as you navigate the CPNA floor! Next year I need an assistant!

NCLA nail wraps and lacquers retail for $16 each. You can shop NCLA products on their website or find them at Nordstrom, Harvey Nichols, Fred Segal and other fine stores. Visit their stockists page for a complete listing. You can also follow NCLA on facebook, twitter, tumblr, and instagram.
