Orly Spring 2013 Hope & Freedom Fest Collection Swatches & Review

Today I have something new for WPP – swatches of an entire Orly Collection. Orly’s Spring 2013 Hope &  Freedom Fest Collection has been available in some outlets since February! It’s funny that I feel late when I swatch polishes IN the season they were intended to be worn! This collection consists of two crèmes, two shimmers and two glitters.

As always, let’s start with my favorite.  Elation Generation is a bright watermelon-ish pink jelly base with holographic glitter. This one is even more amazing in the sunlight! I love everything about it! The formula was nice. This is two coats.

Boho Bonnet is a soft grey-blue crème. The formula was thin...but slow, controlled coats gave me a smooth finish in two passes. The color is pretty and office-worthy.

Coachella Dweller is a soft green crème. I don’t go for green polish, but this is definitely one I could put into rotation. Again, the formula is thinner than I'm used two. Coverage was solid and smooth in three coats.

High on Hope had me at “navy”. It does seem like it accidentally walked into the wrong party. But when you look at the collection as a whole, it strangely fits. The shimmer is very cool. This is a beautiful polish.

Peaceful Opposition is a milky white jelly base (with the slightest, teeniest hint of pink) with square and hex shaped silver glitters. As you would expect with big glitters suspended in a milky jelly - the formula is thick. First, I tried to get it opaque with no undies – but it was too thick for my taste. For the second try, I started with a base of Zoya Snow White which made all the difference and didn't effect the final color at all. This would look great on hands that aren't as pasty as mine!

And finally, Melodious Utopia is a lemon yellow with an ultra-fine fire-y pink and orange shimmer which shows up much more in person (my photos just don’t quite capture it). Okay, here's a shocker...I’m kinda digging this polish. I never thought I'd write that about a yellow.  The formula was very thin. My swatch is three careful coats.

Overall, I like the range in this collection. It has your spring staple pastel cremes, but also some glitter and shimmer. I don't have a lot of experience with Orly (prior to this collection, I only had five lonely Orly's in my stash). The formula, as a whole, seemed thinner than what I'm used to. I don't know if that's typical for the brand or just this batch. Orly has a lot of really interesting shades so I'm eager to try more. I also picked up the Summer 2013 Mash Up Collection. Swatches coming soon!

Orly polishes retail for $8.50. You can find them at a variety of stores and online retailers including Sally Beautyulta, and Drugstores like CVS carry a limited selection.
