Pillow Poppies: Mani Inspired by Crate & Barrel

Lately I'm getting a lot of inspiration from textiles, wallpaper and home goods. Even if it's nearly impossible to capture all of the fine detail from a pattern into a nail art design, often the simple shapes or color combinations can spark something interesting.  This mani is styled after a Marimekko Pieni Unikko Red pillow from Crate & Barrel.

I started with two coats of OPI Alpine Snow. Then, with the large, round end of a sewing pin, I dotted on abstract flower shapes with OPI Red and China Glaze Sexy Lady and layered dots of China Glaze Rosita. With a small dotting tool, I finished the center of each flower with Essie Licorice (being sure to make "imperfect" circles). Finally I added a few black lines around the flowers with a fine brush.

The very top photo has a matte topcoat. I think I like the matte finish better than the shiny Seche Vite. This is a bolder look than I normally wear but it's really grown on me. Now I look at everything as a potential nail art pattern...clothing, rugs, even computer screen savers. I started collecting everything on a special Pinterest Board. Check it out if you're looking for ideas.
